George Jagatic, Founder George first discovered "flag dancing" in 1990, around the time he received his B.A. in Dance from the California State University in Long Beach. His professional background enabled him to quickly digest this new movement and he soon excelled with a unique understanding and style all his own. Over the past decade he has performed his technique throughout the United States and Europe at a variety of special events ranging from private parties to corporate events; from church services to fashion shows, as well as special appearances in television, film and countless dance events. His work was featured as part of TGRT's network logo on Turkish television as well as on special fitness segments on Oxygen Network and "Living Better", a national cable program devoted to alternative mind/body workouts. George has built a structure and language for this burgeoning new art form and is currently teaching "FLOW" to people across the country.
A local Manhattan magazine quoted George in a cover story on the history of "flag dancing." Favorable response prompted them to follow up with a second article featuring his personal contributions to this novel art form. Since then many articles have followed and he has become known as one of the respected leaders in this field.
One of New York's premier modern dance companies, Cortez & Company, took an interest and asked George to teach a series of master classes so that they could integrate this style of movement into a performance of their own. Their performance received glowing reviews. Since then other dance companies and artists have requested his instruction, recognizing George's unique ability to combine dance with "flagging".
Having received much praise for his talent, drive and dedication, George has been working diligently to build a performance company with similarly trained artists. Combining traditional dance techniques with the deeply spiritual expressive qualities that have always typified "flagging," George believes the time has come to further develop this craft into a fully realized performance art form. The realization of that vision is Axis Danz, the only professional "flag dance" company of its kind.
For almost five years now George has combined his skills in dance, flagging and movement therapy to not only teach others about the positive aspects of this art form but to bring it to the public's attention through captivating performances. Because of the language that has been created, the ensemble work that Axis Danz has produced has been unmatched in it's uniqueness.
Gotham TV, a Metro Channel documentary series, recently featured George and his company, offering up "flag dancing" and Axis Danz as one of the new exciting dance/art forms to emerge from the creative Manhattan scene.
